Moving from Feedbin to FeedNest

Download your subscriptions from Feedbin's settings and bring your feeds and tags over in a few minutes.

Feedbin is a paid reader once its trial ends, and FeedNest has a free plan that follows up to 150 feeds. You read the full text of each article, and on the Plus plan Ned summarizes, translates, and reads articles aloud. Starred articles, Pages, and Actions stay behind in Feedbin, as the list below explains.

What comes across from Feedbin

Feeds and tags
Feeds and folders, from the OPML file. Each tag becomes a folder, and a feed with two tags shows up in both.
Starred articles
Not in the OPML file. Feedbin can email you a link to a JSON file of them, which FeedNest cannot read. Save the ones you still need with Add Link.
Pages
Not in the OPML file. Saved does the same job: add any link and it opens as a clean, full-text article.
Newsletters by email
Your private FeedNest address, on Plus and Pro: sign up again with it and each newsletter becomes a source. Newsletters that publish a feed, including every Substack, can also be followed like any other site, on every plan.
Podcasts in Airshow
Not in the OPML file. Following a podcast in FeedNest, and playing its episodes, is part of Plus.
Actions
Not in the OPML file, and rule-based filters are not available in FeedNest yet.
Third-party apps
FeedNest for iOS and Android, plus the web app. Apps that sync with another reader's account do not connect to FeedNest.

Step by step

  1. Export OPML from Feedbin

On Feedbin's website, open Settings, then Import & Export (feedbin.com/settings/import_export). Under Export, leave Subscriptions on All and click Download. You get a file called subscriptions.xml: that is your OPML file, and FeedNest reads it as it is.

  2. Create a free account

Sign up with your email or with Google, Apple, or X. The free plan needs no payment details.

  3. Import the file

Open Add, choose Import feeds, and drop the file in. FeedNest shows the feeds and folders it found, imports them in the background, and emails you when it is done.

  4. Start reading

Each feed's latest articles appear as it is imported, and new ones arrive as the feeds refresh. Read on the web or in the iOS and Android apps.

Before you switch

  • OPML carries your feeds and tags only. Starred articles, Pages, newsletters, Airshow podcasts, Actions, saved searches, and read or unread status stay in Feedbin.
  • Feedbin emails its export of starred articles as a link that expires in 24 hours, and the file is JSON, which FeedNest cannot read. It is still a useful list of what to save again.
  • Before you close your Feedbin account, sign up to your newsletters again with your FeedNest address (Plus and Pro), or follow their feed if they publish one.
  • The free plan follows up to 150 feeds, Plus 1,500, and Pro 3,000. If your file holds more than your plan allows, the import stops at the limit and lists the feeds it left out.
  • On the free plan, the import brings in YouTube channels and podcasts, but watching videos and playing episodes in FeedNest needs Plus. Google News feeds need Plus to import at all: on the free plan the import skips them.

Questions

Will my Feedbin tags come across?

Yes, as folders. Each tag with feeds in it becomes a folder in FeedNest, and a feed with two tags shows up in both. Feeds with no tag arrive without a folder. If you already have a folder with the same name, the new one gets a number after it.

What about starred articles and Pages?

Neither is in the OPML file. Add the ones you still need with Add Link, and tag them to keep them grouped.

Can I use FeedNest without paying?

Yes. The free plan follows up to 150 feeds with full article text and needs no payment details. Plus, at $5.99 a month, adds highlights, notes, listening, translation, and more kinds of sources.

Can I keep using Feedbin while I try FeedNest?

Yes. Downloading your subscriptions changes nothing in Feedbin, so you can use both until you decide.

Can I take my data with me if I leave FeedNest?

Yes. In Settings, under Account, OPML Export downloads every feed and folder you follow as a file that any RSS reader can import.
