Moving from Inoreader to FeedNest

In FeedNest you read the full text of each article, and on the Plus plan Ned summarizes, translates, and reads articles aloud. Saved articles, tags, and rules stay behind in Inoreader, as the list below explains.

What comes across from Inoreader

Feeds and folders
Feeds and folders, from the OPML file.
Saved articles and tags
Not in the OPML file. Save the articles you still need with Add Link and tag them again.
Rules and filters
Not in the OPML file, and rule-based filters are not available in FeedNest yet.
Annotations (highlights and notes)
Highlights and notes on the Plus plan, for what you read from now on. The ones you made in Inoreader stay there.
Newsletters by email
Not supported yet. Many newsletters also publish a feed, including every Substack, and FeedNest follows those like any other site.

Step by step

  1. Export OPML from Inoreader

    On Inoreader's website, open Preferences from the tab bar on the left, select Account, and export your subscriptions as an OPML file.

  2. Create a free account

    Sign up with your email or with Google, Apple, or X. The free plan needs no payment details.

  3. Import the file

    Open Add, choose Import feeds, and drop the file in. FeedNest shows the feeds and folders it found, imports them in the background, and emails you when it is done.

  4. Start reading

    Each feed's latest articles appear as it is imported, and new ones arrive as the feeds refresh. Read on the web or in the iOS and Android apps.

Before you switch

  • OPML carries your feeds and folders only. Saved articles (Read later), tags, annotations, rules, and filters stay in Inoreader.
  • Before you unfollow a newsletter feed in Inoreader, subscribe to that newsletter somewhere else: unfollowing deletes its Inoreader address and every email it collected.
  • The free plan follows up to 150 feeds, Plus 1,500, and Pro 3,000. If your file holds more than your plan allows, the import stops at the limit and lists the feeds it left out.
  • On the free plan, the import brings in YouTube channels and podcasts, but watching videos and playing episodes in FeedNest needs Plus. Google News feeds need Plus to import at all: on the free plan the import skips them.

Questions

Will my Inoreader folders come across?

Yes. Each folder with feeds in it becomes a folder in FeedNest. If you already have one with the same name, the new one gets a number after it.

What about saved articles, tags, and rules?

OPML carries feeds and folders only. Add the saved articles you still need with Add Link and tag them in FeedNest; rules have no equivalent yet.

Can I keep using Inoreader while I try FeedNest?

Yes. Exporting OPML changes nothing in Inoreader, so you can use both until you decide.

Can I take my data with me if I leave FeedNest?

Yes. In Settings, under Account, OPML Export downloads every feed and folder you follow as a file that any RSS reader can import.
